Apl.de.ap is a Filipino-born American rapper, record producer, dancer and philanthropist, best known as a member of the Grammy Award-winning hip hop/ pop group, The Black Eyed Peas. One of Philippines’ home-grown artists who made it onto the international music scene, Apl.de.ap grew up in the barrios of Angeles City, Pampanga Province in the Philippines.

Through the support of a sponsor, Apl.de.ap went to live in L.A. where he met will.i.am. Despite a language barrier, both of them bonded immediately through a shared love of dance. Their friendship spanned high school years and more. The duo started performing together in L.A. from 1988 and together formed The Black Eyed Peas in 1995.

The group rose to fame in 2003 through their third album “Elephunk” with hits “Where Is The Love?”, which topped the charts in over 10 countries globally, and “Shut Up”. With 6 of The Black Eyed Peas albums under their belt, the group has been ranked as one of the world’s best-selling groups of all time, with more than 76 million records sold so far. The group also gained six Grammy awards, including “Best Rap Performance”, Best Pop Vocal Album” and two MTV EMAs for “Best Pop Act” (2004, 2005) and numerous other accolades. “I Gotta Feeling” topped the Billboard single chart for an unprecedented 26 consecutive weeks in 2010 and was nominated for “Record of the Year” at the Grammys. The Black Eyed Peas were 12th on Billboard’s Decade-End Chart Artist of the Decade and 7th in the Hot 100 Artists of the Decade in 2010.

Today, Apl.de.ap remains a part of The Black Eyed Peas, but has also found success on his own, having founded his own label, BMBX Entertainment, which aims to sign Southeast Asian artists and give them exposure on the international stage. He also continues to tour the world DJ-ing events. Most recently, he served as one of the four coaches of the first and second seasons of The Voice of The Philippines. He is also a devoted philanthropist through his Apl.de.ap Foundation and an ambassador of many others such as Pinoy Relief and The Happy Hearts Gala in 2014.

At home, Apl.de.ap has been honoured as the biggest hit-makers in the Philippines at the MYX Music Awards in 2008, Global Achievement by a Filipino Artist at the GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards in 2012 and honoured with The Spirit Award from the Happy Hearts Foundation for his philanthropy work.
